Fury FC Travel Program MissionThe Fury FC Travel Soccer program was formed to prepare and train area players to play competitive soccer. Our mission is to develop our players to perform well at the high school and collegiate levels.
Fury FC teams play in the Virginia Premier Soccer League (VPSL), affiliated with the National Premier League (NPL). VPSL is a state-wide league that includes age groups up to U19 and offers competitive levels ranging from classic to elite. During the spring season, VSL only fields teams up to the U15 age bracket due to older player commitments for spring high school programs.
MatchesMatches are usually played on Saturday and/or Sunday. Participating teams play from eight to ten matches per season and typically participate in one or more tournaments each season. Teams play matches ranging from 35 to 45-minute halves, depending upon the age group. VPSL match scores and official team rankings are maintained by the league and help determine which bracket (classic, premier, or elite) a team will be placed in for optimal competition. Tournaments for either league can be held anywhere, depending upon the scope of the event.
Commitment and ExpectationsCompetitive soccer is a family commitment. Fury teams practice twice weekly, and practices are 90 minutes long. Players will be asked to independently perform conditioning or individual drills between practices and during the off-season. Players are expected to attend all practices and keep their coach aware of events that may impact their ability to make practices or games. Playing time and positions are solely determined by the coaches. No player is guaranteed a minimum amount of playing time. Please do not consider travel soccer unless your player and their family are committed to attending practice and games diligently.
Tryouts and Eligibility
Team tryouts are typically held in April or May for the coming Fall/Spring seasonal year. Our coaches evaluate candidates through drills, small-sided games, and scrimmages. Teams are created and posted on this website depending on the number of players identified as having the necessary skill to play competitively.
Team roster capacity depends on the number of players required to field a team at each age group (e.g., 9v9, 11v11, etc.) and league restrictions. Players chosen for a team in the Fall remain on that team for the Spring season. There may be a second supplemental tryout prior to the Spring season, solely for roster maintenance. For example, if a team needs additional players, they may pick up players during this tryout, or if enough players are found, a new team may be formed. Players need not be residents of Powhatan to participate in Fury FC's travel soccer program. Please note that players are NOT permitted to participate on ANY Fury FC recreational league team while possessing a travel player card, and violations will be brought to the attention of the club’s Board of Directors. Also, players are only permitted to try out in their age-appropriate group (according to birthyear).
Tryout ProcessStep 1 - Attend the appropriate tryout for your age group
Step 2 - 48 hours after tryouts, players will be notified if they have made the team.
Step 3 - If accepted, you will be charged the initial deposit ($150.00) on the Monday following the tryouts.
Step 4 - If a player has not accepted their position within 48 hours, a notice will be sent to remove the player from the team.
Fury travel fees are higher than recreational or player development program fees. However, our fees are substantially lower than many of the Richmond area’s larger programs. We field extremely competitive teams who often rank at the top of their divisions. Our coaches possess USSL license at the state or national level, and we have produced a number of players that have gone on to play at the collegiate level. Other expenses typically include uniforms, equipment, and travel expenses. Here is the breakdown on the fees and expenses:Travel Fury U13-U15 = $1100/year (Fall & Spring Season plus tournaments and winter training)
Travel Fury U16-U19 = $900/year (Fall Season plus tournaments and winter training)

Kits include jerseys, shorts, socks, and training gear. Additional equipment and apparel is available. More details to follow once the roster spot is confirmed and accepted.
As a club, we make conscious decisions to improve our soccer program while keeping fees lower than most of the surrounding clubs. We are comprised of a volunteer organization with exception of the coaching and technical staff.
