Fury FC Travel Program Mission

The Fury FC Travel Soccer program was formed to prepare and train area players to play competitive soccer. Our mission is to develop our players to perform well at the high school and collegiate levels.

League Play
Powhatan Fury FC teams play in the Advanced Development Soccer League (ADSL) and Virginia Soccer League (VSL). Each league is a member of the Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA).

ADSL provides competition at the U9 through U12 age levels and is comprised of four (4) local soccer clubs: Strikers, Kickers, FC Richmond, and Fury FC. The league is personally overseen by the leadership of all member soccer clubs to provide an avenue of positive development for the area's young soccer talent. The ADSL does not post scores or standings keeping the focus on player development and setting the stage for their future success.

VSL is a state-wide league which includes age groups up to U19, and offers competitive levels ranging from classic to elite. During the spring season, VSL only fields teams up to the U15 age bracket due to older player commitments for spring high school programs. VSL teams compete throughout Central Virginia, Tidewater, and Virginia Beach.

Matches
VSL and ADSL matches are usually played on Saturday, and occasionally Sunday. Participating teams play from eight to ten matches per season and typically participate in one or more tournament each season. Teams play matches ranging from 25 to 45 minute halves, depending upon the age group. VSL match scores and official team rankings are maintained by the league, and help determine which bracket (classic, premier or elite) a team will be placed for optimal competition. Tournaments for either league can be held anywhere, depending upon the scope of the event.

Commitment and Expectations
Competitive soccer is a family commitment. Fury teams practice at least twice per week, and sometimes more when initially preparing for the season or a tournament. Practices are 90 to 120 minutes in duration. Fury practices will officially begin on August 12th 2019.  Practices will consist of specialized keeper training for all goal keepers, Sports Performance Training for all U12-U19 teams, and team practices 2-3 times per week. Additionally, players will be asked to perform conditioning or individual drills independently between practices and during the off season. Players are expected to attend all practices and keep their coach aware of events which may impact their ability to make practices or games. Playing time and positions are solely determined by the coaches. No player is guaranteed a minimum amount of playing time. Please do not consider travel soccer unless your player and their family are committed to attending practice and games diligently.

Professional Performance Sports Training
Fury FC has a great partnership with Moss Sports Performance. Supplemental to weekly practices, travel teams have a performance training session led by Moss trainers to enhance athletic ability, improve performance on the field, and reduce the risk of injury. This unique offering available through Fury FC is focused on fine-tuning the athlete to meet present and future physical demands on and off the field.

Tryouts and Eligibility
Team tryouts are typically held in April or May for the coming Fall/Spring seasonal year. Our coaches evaluate candidates through drills, small-sided games, and scrimmages. Depending upon the number of players identified as having the necessary skill to play competitively, teams are created and posted on this website.

Team roster capacity is dependent upon the number of players required to field a team at each age group (e.g. 8v8, 11v11, etc.) and on league restrictions. Players who are chosen for a team in the Fall remain on that team for the Spring season. There is a second, smaller tryout held in November or December, solely for roster maintenance. For example, if a team needs additional players they may pickup players during this tryout or if enough players are found, a new team may be formed. Players need not be residents of Powhatan to participate in travel soccer. Please note that players are NOT permitted to participate on ANY Fury FC recreational league team while possessing a travel player card, and violations will be brought to the attention of the club’s Board of Directors.

Tryout Process:
Step 1 - Attend the appropriate tryout for your age group
Step 2 - 48 hours after tryouts, results will be posted and players notified if they made the team.
Step 3 - If accepted, the player will have 48 hours to accept their position and pay the initial deposit.
Step 4 - If player has not accepted their position within 48 hours, then a notice will be sent removing the player from the team.
Step 5 - All players are required to attend, size and purchase their uniforms from a local vendor prior to June 1st.
Step 6 - Uniforms will be available for pickup approximately by Aug 1st.

Fees
Fury travel fees are higher than recreational or player development program fees. However, our fees are substantially lower than many of the Richmond area’s larger programs. We field extremely competitive teams who often rank at the top of their divisions. Nearly all of our coaches possess a D license at the state or national level, and we have produced a number of players that have gone on to play at the collegiate level. Other expenses typically include uniforms, equipment, and travel expenses. Here is the breakdown on the fees and expenses:

Travel Fury U9-U15 = $995/year (Fall & Spring Season plus 3 Tournaments)
Travel Fury U16-U19 = $845/year (Fall Season plus 4 Tournaments)
***Paid in Full upon acceptance to the team or 6 month installments (July-Dec) via autopay credit card***
***A non-refundable deposit of $100 is collected upon acceptance and registration to the team***

Mandatory Uniform Kit = ~$350  ***Paid up front***
Uniform Kit consist of the following: Backpack, Two (2) game jerseys, Two (2) pairs of shorts, Two (2) pairs of socks, Two (2) practice jerseys, One (1) Sweatshirt, One (1) Rain jacket, and One (1) pair of training pants.

We have increased our fees by $20 for this upcoming season, reflective of the increased state and league fees being imposed in 2019.

As a club, we make conscience decisions to improve our soccer program while keeping fees lower than most of the surrounding clubs.  We are comprised of a volunteer organization with exception of the coaching and technical staff.
